Unity Friends with Flair Friday

Hey there TGIF! Friday means another Friends with Flair over at Unity Stamp Co. There is also a set up for grabs for $2!!

This week Lesley Langdon shared a fun technique using distress inks. I had to try and came up with this:

So next was to use it on a card or project. I've been super busy all week and didn't get much time to play but late last night I did this:

BUT I don't like it. I think it's the ribbon that just does not work. But I used score tape so I didn't want to mess with the whole thing. At first I thought the black and pink would look cool but it doesn't really. I decided to just roll with it anyhow because we don't always like every piece we make right? How many times have you tossed a card out because you didn't like how it was coming along or even the end product. I figured why not just go with it and share the good ones and not so good ones. Maybe later I can play with it and take that darn ribbon off and "fix" it to look a little better.

Well, I did do the same technique but on a different surface to hopefully this weekend I will play with that.

That's it for now!

Hippity Hop with Ippity Chicks

It's been a long time since I did an "hippity hop" but I'm so glad I signed up this week. This past week I pulled out my poor Ippity stamps and got to work. Lately I've been into taking paint and stamps to canvas to create little "works of art", ok well maybe fabulous "works" but I would like to think maybe one day I'll get there :-) After taking Soul Restoration and then the She Art class I have gotten into this mixed media stuff! LOL!!! Here is what I did using many different Ippity stamps on a 5x7 piece of canvas board:

Like I said I used alot of Ippity stamps! The background started with some paint and a little bit of patterned paper, then the stamps took over! The bird was stamped onto pattern paper and I paper pieced the wing in with a different pattern paper. The branches are from the bird SU punch.

Check out the flower (Prima):

YES you can stamp on your flowers!! Why the heck not!!

Be sure to stop by the Ippity Blog to be sure you hop on the right track!

Ok here we go with a second Unity post for today! Below you will find my FWF project. And next All Things Unity challenge! The current challenge is to use BUTTONS! How much fun is that?? So for this I just had to go back to an oldie but goodie Unity the giggle groove tree! Who remembers this awesome stamps?? Friends with Flair Friday Unity Style

It's Friday and time for another fun Friends with Flair!! Did you see Lesley Langdon's tutorial this week? OMG, very cool! You can see it HERE at My Unity Place! SO I HAD to try this! Here is what I came up with:

I used the heart stamp from Love is Toxic and a sentiment stamp "Create it" from a store kit. I believe the 2010 one.

For the middle I did something a little different than what Lesley did in the video. I decided to match the ribbon from the edge and I just glued it to a little piece of cardboard and added a button. I used score tape to adhere it.

Well that's what I have for you today!!

So have you been over to MY UNITY PLACE yet? You have to come over and check it out! It's a great place to hang out and there is a chat feature which rocks!

Also be sure to pay a visit to this week's Growing in Unity gal - Martha!

Stampendous Fun

I was at my local stamp store the other day and they had the new large Stampendous Cling stamps! These stamps are HUGE! I thought they would be fun and perfect to play around with in my art journal. I picked up one called "Cling Jumbo Hydrangea Set". This stamp measures about 5 inches across and approx 7 inches from top to end of stem! Now that's huge!

One journal that I have is a composition book which I covered with fun papers and I like to write in daily funny things about the kids and life. I've taken it to my daughter's ballet class and my son and I wait for her by drawing with crayons in the book. Later I write over it. SO, I stamped the flower in this journal and colored it with regular crayons and loved it! So simple and fun. Then I thought why not stamp this huge flower on the front of a card and color it with crayons? So I did:

The butterfly is also part of the set and she is popped up on SU dimensionals. The sentiment is by Unity Stamp Co.

How cute is this? SIMPLE SIMPLE, children's crayons! OK, so it's not a perfect coloring job and I did go outside the lines a bit! LOL! But I thought it came out pretty neat. Now this makes me think I should get some artist crayons to play with! Next up maybe some watercoloring... I have an Stampin Up water color crayon set and another one I got at Micheal's so I might have to play with those soon.

Art Journal Every Day

Julie Fei-Fan Balzer from Balzer Design has the Art Journal Every Day going on each month. It's a way to motivate creativity every day. I have gotten into mixed media, collaging, journaling recently after taking Soul Restoration with Melody Ross and then the She Art class with Christy Tominlinson. So now I have a few art journals in my room and I do try to do something in them each day. Here you will see the date on the bottom is from March and yes I did work on this then. Actually that day I thought ok I'm done but it was awful, worse than what it is now if you can believe that! LOL! Anyhow here is my page:

So when I was creating this page I think it was Julie who probably that day or during this that week showed a journal page with large flowers on it and I loved it. SO I decided to draw some big flowers. She used a china marker which I had and used but then I couldn't color over it because it smudged. SO I used a black permanent marker and painted with pink paint but that didn't work well. SO today I pulled this out again and actually used a dye ink re-inker and a paintbrush to color them blue. SO some of the flower petals here were still drying when I took the photo and they did come out a little too dark. BUT over all it is a little better now than what is was then. I also added some stickles which I love. Then looking at it now I should have went with 3 large flowers because we all know odd numbers for design works better, but oh well.

I'll be back again with some more journal pages as I continue to mess around and learn. Its just fun to toss some paint on a page at random. I actually have a few pages in this journal with just colors on a page waiting for some other cool stuff.

Welcome to another challenge with JUST US GIRLS! This week is sketch week. Here is today's sketch: Here is what I came up with:

Unity Friends with Flair Friday

It's been a few weeks since I played in the Unity Friends with Flair but here I am with some Unity creations! Since taking Melody Ross' Soul Restoration and Christy Tominlinson's She Art class I have been into painting, collaging and art journaling. kk So today I decided to take those ideas for my project. I have this 6x6 book of canvas paper by Strathmore so I took a piece out and added some paints to it, mounted it on a piece of cardstock, added a small wallet sized photo and here is what I came up with:

The next wonderful Unity player should be the wonderful challenge blog ALL THINGS UNITY.
